Founded in 2014 by the husband-and-wife duo Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, The War And Treaty has emerged as one of the most electrifying new acts in American music. They were nominated for the Best New Artist and Best American Roots Song at the 2024 GRAMMY Awards, and have also been nominated for Duo of the Year at the CMA Awards two years in a row and for Vocal Duo of the Year at the ACM Awards. Haley Johnsen sings like she’s got nothing left to lose and everything left to say. The Portland-bred singer-songwriter has spent the last several years carving out her own corner of Americana, one where alt-pop grit collides with the kind of vocal firepower that stops rooms cold. Critics keep reaching for Brandi Carlile and Bonnie Raitt as reference points, and it’s not hard to hear why: Johnsen writes like the truth costs something and she’s willing to pay it, then wraps it all in hooks big enough to fill an arena.
She’s earned her stripes the old-fashioned way, on the road. Johnsen has shared stages with Allen Stone, KT Tunstall, Joseph, The Talbott Brothers, and Liam St. John, a the last two years she brought her sound to Summerfest in Milwaukee, one of the biggest festival stages in the country.
